Clara Jost is filmmaker born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. She studied film editing and directing at Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Lisbon) and holds a master's degree in Audiovisual Arts from KASK (Ghent, Belgium), which she attended as a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation fellow.

Her works take everyday objects as their starting point, exploring their historical, emotional, and cultural layers. They offer an opportunity to step back from the constant stimulation of the attention economy and engage with the present, discovering depth in the banality that surrounds us.

Her short films have been selected at festivals across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including: IndieLisboa (Portugal), Curtas de Vila do Conde (Portugal), Premiers Plans Angers (France), Festival du Nouveau Cinéma Montreal (Canada), Lago Film Fest (Italy), ZINEBI (Spain), Alchemy Film and Moving Image (Scotland), Kasseler Dokfest (Germany), Beijing International Short Film Festival (China), and London Short Film Festival (UK). They have also been exhibited at venues such as Kunsthalle Münster (Germany), Museo Malba (Argentina), Palácio das Artes de Belo Horizonte (Brazil), and CAM Gulbenkian (Portugal). Her films have received recognition including the Best National Short Film award at IndieLisboa 2020.

Her most recent film work includes Happiness in a pot (2024) and Bonjour Eric (2024), the latter of which is currently available on DaFilms. She has also participated in two group exhibitions with multidisciplinary pieces: at Alfaia Association (Loulé, PT) and Zaratan (Lisbon, PT).

She also works regularly as an editor. She’s edited short and feature films, among other formats, directed by Teresa Villaverde, Paula Tomás Marques, Nuno Pimentel, Salomón Pérez, João Onofre, among others.

She currently divides her time between several teaching activities between Lisbon and the Algarve (Ar.Co, ETIC Algarve, Cinéma Cent Ans de Jeunesse, among others) and working on her first feature film, Still—moving, which in November 2025 she’s pitched at Ji.hlava New Visions Forum Europe (Czech Republic).
